Adeedo! Comes Together to Help Kick Cancer at the Kickin’ Cancer 5k

When it comes to our community, we’re kickin’ it!

That’s right. More than 30 Adeedo-ers came together to have fun and do good as we walked, ran or strolled on Sunday, October 6th at the Kickin’ Cancer 5k, supporting the Lynne Cohen Foundation. This family-(and pet!)-friendly event started at 9 am on San Vicente Boulevard and ended at noon, allowing our community to gather in support of preventing and fighting women’s cancers.

We also donated $2,700 to the cause, beyond our participation in the event and the support coming from Adeedo!’s October special; a $29 donation is made to Kickin’ Cancer with every job. In the words of Adeedo!’s Erica, “It was a beautiful event filled with love and hope. The warm-up was a celebration of life for those who have lost the battle; we honored their lives minutes before the walk began. In total, it was nice to see our squad out there representing the company as well as the hope for a cure!”

There are lots of reasons why we support this important cause.

Cancer has touched those here at Adeedo! and this year, Laura is “walking for my sister-in-law who beat cancer in 2015. We pray it doesn’t come back…”

Adeedo!’s Mel is participating because “the sister of one of my closest friends (of 37 years) developed breast cancer at the age of 30. She was brilliant and hugely successful. She fought bravely for 10 years, but lost the fight at the age of 40. She left money to an organization that trains and supplies guide dogs to the blind.

Another amazing Adeedo-er told us: “I’m walking for my mom who has Lymphoma cancer. She’s had it since I was 10 years old. My momma is a strong, loving woman and has gone through so much: chemotherapy, bone marrow transplant and so much more. She has been in remission twice, but it’s been short-lived; the cancer comes back. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy again, and recently has had stomach tumors removed. Having her in my life every day is a blessing.”

Adeedo!’s Alfonzo has a special reason for participating this year… “I am walking for the bravest person in my life, my mom. She battled cancer for 10 years and she always put up a strong fight, never showing her pain to her loved ones. She lost her fight 3 years ago. I am also walking for my best friend, and we will support him with this new battle in his life! We are in it TOGETHER!”

Breast Cancer Month and our Tree of Life

In the hallway at Adeedo! this month, we have created a “Tree of Life” where we’re celebrating cancer survivors, those who are currently fighting, and those who have lost the fight. Each leaf on the tree represents someone special to us. We made the tree to honor our team members who work hard for us every day, letting them know that we appreciate all that they do, and that their losses are OUR LOSSES and we honor and celebrate together.

Yes, indeed, we are in it together.

Community and family are major parts of our lives. That’s why we do everything we can to support one another. And that’s why we were at the Lynne Cohen Foundation’s Kickin’ Cancer 5k. LET’S DO THIS!
